Sea Temperature: 12
Weather: cloudy
Max Speed: 26.28 (knots - unless stated otherwise)

After yesterdays playing in the waves and with more se wind forecast I thought I would take the longboard to Shingle Street on the entrance to the River Ore just up the coast from where I live at Felixstowe and check out the flat water speed potential. As Mag had to have her stitches from her leg op. at 11:30 we arrived and parked at the end of the concrete road by the river at 12:30 with the tide low which was good as it made launching easy as the wases hadn't breached the shingle bar.So after cuppa soup - we know now to live I was on the water at one and headed up river.Unfortunately the wind was too light and very gusty which is a shame because I had a couple of mile of flat water !!! But because the tide was fairly low the wind coming across Orford Island seemed to be missing the river, it improved a little as the tide came end but got more choppey.Still had fun fun the start of the island to Orford lighthouse out with hundreds of birds including lots of newly arrived Brent Geese :) As for speed potential it might be all right for longboard sailing but with the strong current shortboard sailing would be difficult :( I made it back as it was getting dark to met Mag on her walk and stopped a few hundred metres short of the van as it was abit wild in the river mouth and I didn't want to break any more kit !!! So not too bad an afternoon just more wind required !!!
